Ultraflex Solar Arrays developed in Goleta by Allied Techsystems (ATK) are powering the Mars Phoenix Lander that touched down on 5/25 to study the planet’s water and potential habitability. Each array unfolded into a circle 2.1 meters in diameter, according a press release, capable of generating 770 watts on Earth, but less than half that on Mars because of its greater distance from the sun.

Represented by the Sotheby’s Real Estate team of Bob Lamborn and Lisa Loiacono, actor John Cleese has sold his Montecito estate Stalloreggi to Craig McCaw, former husband of Santa Barbara News-Press owner Wendy McCaw. The 15-acre, 25-horse-stall home, with organic garden, was listed for $28 million. Stalloreggi means “king’s stables” in Italian. (/stalloreggi)
