The longest-running surfing contest on the South Coast, the Rincon Classic, attracted droves of people to the narrow stretch of beach on 1/17 and 1/18 to watch area legends like Tom Curren compete with other surfers. Greenproject Consultants-in charge of managing the waste generated by attendees-reported that 75 to 80 percent of it was diverted from the waste stream.
