The cause of a fire at a Goleta building owned by weapons manufacturer Raytheon is under investigation. The fire, which broke out the afternoon of 4/20, caused roughly $100,000 in damage to the building and equipment, though no one was injured and the building evacuated quickly. The fire was contained to one room of the large, single-story building on Coromar Drive, in part thanks to the building’s automatic sprinkler system.
A 4/16 ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opened Sumida Gardens, a new apartment community at 122 Sumida Gardens Lane in Goleta. Built especially with working people in mind, the new apartments have easy access to the 101 and are located within walking distance of Goleta Cottage Hospital and Magnolia Center.
