In response to the adversity spurred by BP’s highly publicized and devastating oil spill, Santa Barbara restaurant The Hungry Cat will be hosting a Gulf Benefit this Tuesday, July 27.
According to Drake Harper, the restaurant’s chef de cuisine, the event is a tribute to those dependent on jobs in the Gulf’s wounded fishing industry. “Basically we’re doing this just to help out the people from the Gulf and get them back on their feet, showing our support and appreciation for them. We’re depending on a lot of the seafood that comes out of the Gulf, and we’re supporting the community.”
As such, the evening will offer up a special menu consisting of more New Orleans-style options than the restaurant’s traditional fare. The assortment of seafood dishes — such as oysters en brochette, soft shell crab po’boy, and trout amandine — as well as a selection of Gulf-inspired cocktails — for example, the Hurricane and Creole Julep — were chosen as a tribute to traditional Louisiana cuisine.
There will be no entry fee and all dishes and cocktails can be ordered a la carte. Thirty percent of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to Adopt a Fisherman, an organization founded to support fishing families in Louisiana that have been devastated by the spill.
