As part of a statewide effort to clean up California’s beaches, divisions of the county’s Public Works Department are teaming up with area environmental protection groups for Coastal Clean-Up Day this Saturday, September 25. Teams of volunteers will carry out large-scale efforts to remove trash, debris, and hazardous waste from more than 25 South County beaches, creeks, and lakes—but more helpers are needed. The following are just a few of the cleanup sites seeking volunteers for the day, as well as their meet-up locations:

• Ellwood Beach (Ellwood Mesa Bluffs, beach access point, near Hollister Ave. and Ellwood Dr., Goleta)

• Lake Los Carneros (South Coast Railroad Museum parking lot, 300 N. Los Carneros Rd., Goleta)

• West Beach (Across the street from Sambo’s Restaurant, 216 W. Cabrillo Blvd.)

• East Beach (Cabrillo Bathhouse, 1118 E. Cabrillo Blvd.)

The efforts start at 9 a.m. at all locations. Volunteers are asked to bring their own bag or bucket for trash. For a list of the more than two dozen sites targeted for clean up, contact information, and lots more, visit lessismore.org/coast.
