Second District Supervisor and Board Chair Janet Wolf will present a Resolution commending the United Pier & Shore Anglers of California for the operation of the Goleta Pier Angler Center at the November 2 Board of Supervisors Hearing.

On October 16, UPSAC and Santa Barbara County Parks sponsored the Goleta Pier Youth Fishing Tournament, which brought together about 50 children and their families.

“Since the Angler Center opened it has provided a wonderful service to children and families, and has been such a positive improvement on the pier,” said Supervisor Wolf.

The Angler Center is a partnership between UPSAC and Santa Barbara County Parks. Staffed by volunteers, the Angler Center provides tutoring in ethical angling practices for children, youth and families. UPSAC also runs periodic fishing classes for children on Goleta Pier.

The Angler Center was converted by County Parks from an antiquated, unplumbed restroom into a center for environmental education. The center is open on Thursdays through Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
