Representative Lois Capps and Tri-County Planned Parenthood representatives this week spoke out against the Republican House majority’s attempt to defund Title X of the Public Health Services Act, efforts which, if successful, would essentially stop funding for Planned Parenthood centers across the country. Title X provides federal grants for “family planning and related preventative health services.” The funds cannot be used to pay for abortions. Ninety-five percent of the services provided by Planned Parenthood of the Tri-Counties — which serves more than 30,000 patients annually — are services covered by Title X, said a spokesperson for Capps.
