A Santa Barbara jury, as of Wednesday morning, was in the midst of its third full day of deliberating the fate of Corey Lyons, accused of shooting and killing his brother Daniel Lyons and his brother’s life partner, Barbara Scharton. After 46 days in a trial filled with evidence of gunshot residue, bullet trajectories, and phone calls, prosecutor Gordon Auchincloss told the jury that Corey Lyons killed the couple out of “bitterness and rage” over a lawsuit the two had filed against him. Attorney Bob Sanger called no defense witnesses, but suggested during his closing arguments that none of the evidence added up to proof beyond a reasonable doubt that his client murdered the two.
