Sean Hannity on KCSB Thursday
Clips from Former UCSB Host-Turned-Conservative Commentator Aired as Part of Station's 50th Anniversary
Conservative Fox television show host Sean Hannity started his radio career beneath UCSB’s Storke Tower on the airwaves of KCSB 91.9 FM, before being booted in 1989 for making “multiple discriminatory statements based on sexual orientation” in violation of campus policy.
As part of KCSB’s 50th anniversary celebration, the station will by tapping its archive on Thursday, December 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, to air some of the material that led to his ouster as well as recollections of the event from station veterans Elizabeth Robinson and Richard Flacks.
“We’ve been airing archival materials all year, in commemoration of our Golden Anniversary,” said the station’s development coordinator Ted Coe. “It’s part of a larger initiative here at KCSB to build up and preserve the expansive audio history that’s been created and aired from here.” Coe said that Flacks recently uncovered a tape of what appears to be Hannity’s last broadcast, and since anniversaries should be about acknowledging bad times as well as the good, it was quickly decided to air the material.
So tune into 91.9 FM at 10 a.m. and listen to Hannity’s last show — well, at least one of the last ones till he skyrocketed to arch-conservative fame.
