W.H.O. Foundation Grants $24,500 to Doctors Without Walls
A check presentation took place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, during BeautiControl Executive Director Michelle Jones’ Success Meeting at the Best Western, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd. Board President, Nancy Lapolla, who attended the event for Doctors Without Walls, said, “The Board of Directors, the Women’s Clinic Medical Director and the premed intern – along with all of our amazing nurses and students who volunteer at the Women’s Free Homeless Clinic – were filled with gratitude that W.H.O. understands the awesome work and critical need of our underserved homeless women’s population.”
Lapolla went on to say, “This is the first grant written specifically targeting our important work in our homeless women’s clinic. The WFHC currently caters to the distinct needs of at-risk women, giving them a safe haven where they can shower, have a hot meal and have their medical
needs met by our volunteer medical staff. With extensive input from the women themselves, volunteers, and the leadership of DWW, we are excited to utilize this grant to make sustainable changes to women’s’ health.”

About Doctors Without Walls
Doctors Without Walls (DWW) provides volunteer, free medical care based on the vision that street medicine is a valuable medical specialty that benefits the entire community. DWW strives to deliver healthcare to vulnerable populations in their own reality, leading to clinics in parks, on the streets, in the Women’s Free Homeless Clinic (WFHC), and in partnerships with community warming shelters. In 2011, the street teams provided care to over 1150 patients while the WFHC catered to the distinct needs of over 450 at-risk women.
