Just when it was time to come out of the theater after the recent film festival, South Coast businesses owners who want to work with the movie industry are encouraged to attend a film production seminar from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on February 27 in the San Miguel Room at Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort.

Scheduled to speak at the no-cost seminar are California State Film Commissioner Amy Lemisch and Lisa Rich, a producer for the commercial production company Smuggler. They will discuss topics related to media production in the state and local jurisdictions including trends, production company process for bidding, landing and locating jobs, strategies for attracting this business, and obstacles to production.

To attend, RSVP to Geoff@filmsantabarbara.com by February 20. The City of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County Film Commission are sponsoring the seminar.

More Movies

The Montecito-based business called the Get Happy Zone is sponsoring the only Central Coast screening of the movie Happy at 4 p.m., February 11, at the Marjorie Luke Theater.

Screening sponsors include: Silvergreens; Yoga Soup; DeDominic & Associates; International Women’s Festivals; ParentClick.com; SBCoupons.com; and Eric Roland Photography. For more information, see thehappymovie.com or gethappyzone.com.

To celebrate World Happy Day, the movie, produced through the nonprofit Creative Visions Foundations, will be screened on the heels of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Produced by Academy Award nominee Roko Belic, Happy will be shown at select locations around the country the same day.

“As the owner of Get Happy Zone personal development company, I feel it only fitting to host this extraordinary event, World Happiness Day,” said Montecito resident and author Jackie Ruka.

Happy looks at secrets behind that emotion. Moviemakers interviewed people from a range of socio and economic lifestyles in various countries to find out what makes them happy and discovered money is not the key to happiness, Ruka said. For a $5 donation at the door, it is an alternative for young people and the general public to view an independent film at low cost, she said.

“The current financial crisis and high unemployment have left people feeling more disconnected than ever before,” Ruka said. “As a result it is even more important to learn these important principles and refocus your energy on being positive and happy.”.
