Summer Arts Preview 2013: Classical Music
Mosher Guest Artists Galore at the MAW
The members of the Music Academy of the West’s Festival Orchestra will join the Academy’s Voice Fellows for a special concert under the baton of visiting artist Matthias Pintscher at Hahn Hall on Monday evening, July 1. The conductor in this instance is also the composer of one of the pieces. Pintscher’s bereshit (the first word in the Torah) is a creation myth in music and song, and the ensemble will perform it, along with music by Maurice Ravel (Le tombeau de Couperin) and Igor Stravinsky (Pulcinella). Pintscher, one of the European classical world’s hottest composers, was recently named artistic director of the Ensemble InterContemporain, the Paris-based chamber orchestra founded by Pierre Boulez. Hearing the Academy vocal fellows with an orchestra on the stage instead of in the pit ought to make for a memorable evening.
