Artist and musician Yoko Ono and actor and artist Jeff Bridges have donated to this year’s One Night Stand fundraiser for Art From Scrap. Ono and Bridges join an impressive and growing list of artists who have created a 9″ x 9″ work of art to be exhibited for one night only on Saturday, August 24th at the Brooks Gallery 27 from 5:30-9:30 pm.

One Night stand is an unusual art event. Professional artists from around the county are invited to participate. None of the art is labeled. Only when the art is sold, is the artist’s name revealed. This leads to all sorts of fun, surprise and speculation on the night of the event as art patrons and first time collectors hunt for works of art from renowned artists.

The list of artists participating in One Night Stand includes Yoko Ono, Kent Twitchell, Michael McMillen, John Nava, Phoebe Brunner, Thomas Van Stein, and V.C. Johnson.

Many of the artists who donate to One Night Stand also attend the event. “Last year, I had no idea whose art I had purchased until after I bought it.” explained Mary Price. “I only knew that I loved the piece. It was exciting to find out who the artist was and to be able to support Art From Scrap through my purchase.”

Phoebe Brunner said, “It’s very exciting and a one of a kind event full of surprises. As an artist who does not typically paint small, this is a challenge and a real treat to see what appears. Lots of little gems in this show. Last year, we purchased a lovely woodblock from an L.A. artist unknown to me. Now it’s one of my favorite things.”

Dan Levin is “grateful to be included in this varied and talented group of artists… banding together for a worthy cause as it were.”

Last year’s sold-out event raised $40,000 to support Art From Scrap’s mission of environmental education and art programming.

“One Night Stand is our major fundraiser and is a wonderful and direct way for people to support our Art From Scrap program.” said Explore Ecology Executive Director Cay Sanchez. “Besides offering art from over 150 artists, we have wonderful food, refreshments and a Silent Auction. A new addition this year is that Sidewalk Affair – an R&B band will be playing in the parking lot/party area at starting at 5:30 pm. We hope to see you there!”

Tickets are available online at, at the door, or by calling 805-884-0459 x17. Gates open at 5:30 pm on Saturday, August 24th. The event itself starts at 6:30 pm for Preview Early Entry and 7:00 pm for General Admission. The cost- General Entry is $35.00 before event/$ 40.00 at the door. Preview Early Entry- 6:30 pm $125.00 before event/$150.00 at the door.

Art lovers and collectors, mark your calendars! While this may be your first One Night Stand, we guarantee you will feel great the next morning, knowing that your generosity has helped to support environmental education and the arts… and Art From Scrap will have the utmost respect for you!

About Art from Scrap: Starting out in 1990 as a ReUse retail store, an Arts Center, and an environmental education program, Art from Scrap (AFS) has expanded to help tens of thousands of students throughout Santa Barbara County to understand the importance of conserving their environment through reducing waste, improving water quality, and gardening. As its programs have expanded over the past two decades, AFS outgrew its name, and has since evolved into Explore Ecology.

About Explore Ecology: Explore Ecology is an environmental education and creative art discovery organization that evolved out of Art from Scrap and brings the ReUse retail store, art workshops, and environmental outreach programs under one umbrella. Explore Ecology brings an array of programs to the community in an effort to encourage people to think creatively through hands-on science exploration and art discovery. The programs bring together environmental awareness and artistic creativity to create a connection between people and their environment.
