What’s left after the tribe gets through? Answer: Whatever they don’t want.

Why don’t we all retreat into groups of 143 and make demands on everyone else for special rights, special revenues, and special lands on which we can demand special laws to fill our plates at the expense of all the others?

On this land I will build a special tower from which I will rain endless arrows of such demands for privileges that go far beyond the ordinary laws we all must follow.

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians will take revenues away from the county at a conservative rate of $80,000 per year while having the gall to demand increased services from the tax base.

This is better than someone having his cake and eating it, too. This is us, the community, not having our cake and having to feed the dream of low responsibility and high demand for government-provided services for those who have the cake.

What will we have left after they are finished with their demands? Answer: Whatever they don’t want.
