The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is holding two “Coffee with a Cop” events next week. The first one will be held in Carpinteria on Tuesday, August 27, at Crushcakes Café located at 4945 Carpinteria Avenue from 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the second one will be held on Wednesday, August 28 at McDonald’s located at 146 South Fairview Avenue in Goleta also from 8:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. The coffee events are a great way for the public to get to know Sheriff’s Deputies that work in their communities in a casual atmosphere and ask questions.

The “Coffee with a Cop” event in Carpinteria will also be an opportunity for residents to meet the city’s new Chief of Police, Lieutenant Brad McVay. Carpinteria city leaders will also be in attendance to welcome Lt. McVay to his new assignment. The Sheriff’s Office started doing monthly coffee events in Carpinteria in February and Lt. McVay is committed to keeping the community gatherings going. He said, “It is important to have open communication with the public and direct interaction. We are more effective as an organization when we work in cooperation with the communities we serve and protect.”

Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the City of Goleta will be on hand at the “Coffee with a Cop” event in Goleta. Community Resource Deputy Greg Sorenson encourages residents to stop by and say hello. He said, “There’s no agenda, just coffee and conversation. We look forward to meeting as many residents as we can.”

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office contracts with the City of Goleta and the City of Carpinteria for police services.
