Walt (Bryan Cranston) gets increasingly menacing in the third-to-last episode of Breaking Bad.

Episode 14 opens up by bringing viewers back to the very beginning, when Walt and Jesse were in the middle of the desert cooking meth in an old RV. It’s the good old days, when things seemed so much simpler.

“Ozymandias” unfolds into a horror mini-movie of sorts, where one devastating event follows on the heels of another. We watch as Walt fights to save Hank from being killed by Jack and his gang. We see a sliver of innocence and devastation from Walt when he falls to the ground after Hank is shot, realizing what has just happened. We almost believe he still has a good bone in his body when he offers up his entire fortune to save Hank, but it dissolves quickly as the show progresses.

Heisenburg snaps back into effect when he tells Jack that he still needs to kill Pinkman. He pours salt on Jesse’s wounds when he admits to Jesse that he watched his girlfriend die from an overdose and chose to do nothing.

At one point Walt and Skylar start a fight over the knife, with Walter Jr. trying to stop them while his baby screams in the background. In the midst of it all Walt screams, “We’re a family!,” as if to point out how much of the family dynamic has fallen by the wayside. Later, during a phone call between Walt and Skylar, we get a clearer picture of the monster Walt has become.

By the episode’s close, and now only two episodes from the series finale, we’re left to wonder how much more could go wrong.
