Additionally, Lane Farms’ famous pumpkin patch is now open for business (with pumpkins arriving soon at the markets).

Their story: Since 1868, the Lane family has been farming in Santa Barbara County. Growing more than 30 different varieties of fruits and vegetables, they run a produce stand that’s been a popular destination for 75 years.

“I love the corn and sweet tomatoes, one of our top sellers,” said Henry, a family friend of John and Ruth Lane who works their market stand. “Honestly, there is nothing I don’t like; it’s all extremely flavorful.”

While not certified organic, Lane Farms practices sustainable and organic methods of production, with a longtime reputation for good, clean, wholesome produce.

“People are amazed at the flavor,” said Henry, “a product that is not full of chemicals!”

Working alongside area schools, Lane Farms has dedicated time to farm education, helping children understand the nature of their local food system.

“When kids are out on the farm seeing things grow, they have a deeper connection to their food,” said Henry. “They begin to realize that food is not grown at the supermarket!”

A familiar face at the market, Henry has enjoyed keeping the Lane Farms tradition alive. “It’s really the people that make the markets fun,” said Henry. “It’s wonderful to bring our farm stand to the people. I love interacting with customers and helping them make selections … and throwing in a good joke here and there!”
