Man With Warrants Arrested After Fighting With Sergeant
Ricky Ramirez Also Charged With Drug Crimes
A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday after fighting with and hurting a Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Sergeant after the suspect was pulled over in the Blue Skies Mobile Home Park.
At around 11:50 p.m., the sergeant conducted a traffic stop on a car driven by Ricky Ramirez in the 4200 block of Calle Real. As the two were speaking outside Ramirez’s car and the sergeant called for back-up, a struggle ensued. “The sergeant was injured and transported to the hospital with moderate injuries,” said Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover.
Ramirez ran from the scene through the mobile home park and into the nearby St. Vincent’s condominium community. Authorities set a perimeter and started looking for Ramirez. Soon thereafter, a condo resident pointed deputies in the direction where Ramirez was running, and a deputy caught up to him and held him at gunpoint in front of a home in the 4400 block of San Martin Way.
Ramirez was arrested on a number of charges, including resisting arrest with force and obstructing or delaying a peace officer. A search of his vehicle also turned up heroin and drug paraphernalia. “Ramirez had several warrants out for his arrest,” said Hoover, “including grand theft, domestic violence and battery of a court officer. Ramirez is in the Santa Barbara County Jail and is not eligible for bail.”
