I walked into the Santa Barbara County supervisors’ hearings Tuesday, October 7, and the room was filled with young people all wearing green shirts that said Measure P wanted to stop oil drilling, meaning we the people who want to ban fracking. It bothered me to see so many people against banning fracking. It was a long meeting, but the supervisors agreed to accept the Planning Commission recommendations when Measure P passes.

After the hearing, a friend told me he saw all the young ones get in a bus; in other words, the oil company bused them in. Another person told me they questioned one of them, and they had no idea what fracking is.

We just want to ban fracking, which takes all our water and mixes it with chemicals, some of which are hard to pronounce, all of them harmful to us, and after they do this procedure, they get very little oil.

Also oil, coal, gas are things of the past; we need renewables. We have enough sun here in Santa Barbara County to go with solar. The oil companies are spending a fortune to misinform people; we who want to ban fracking are using our people power to get the message across. As one sign said, “Save our planet. We do not have a planet B.”
