Citizens First

I am appalled, both by The Independent’s endorsement of No on P and by its rationale for this endorsement. In spite of the multi-millions spent by the oil and gas industries to spread misinformation, deceit, and outright lies, the truth is that all Measure P prohibits is “new high intensity petroleum operations” (i.e., fracking, acidizing, and steam injection) in Santa Barbara County. Period, end of discussion.

And surely The Independent recognizes that “good governance” begins with citizens (we the people, not corporations). And surely not with the democracy-destroying big money pouring into Santa Barbara from the extractive industries.

Please, for the sake of our county, state, country, and global climate — Yes on P.
