Sunday, July 19, 1 p.m. will live in our hearts and minds forever. It was the vigil and march to honor puppy Davey and an opportunity to lend our voices to support mandatory prison terms for those who torture animals.

Two days before, we had learned about the horrendous crimes perpetrated upon Davey. We attended the rally armed with only four clipboards, a makeshift sign, and petitions calling for the recall of Judge Brian Hill for his lenient sentence of convicted animal torturer Duanying Chen.

The three of us stood out in the blazing sun and waited. And they came! More than 800 people wanting justice for the fallen puppy. We couldn’t get the petitions passed around quickly enough, but 287 signed them.

The same thing happened in our Hidden Valley neighborhood. People cared and wanted to get involved.

Though we fell short of the number of signatures required to recall Judge Hill, our voices were heard and our message understood. You made a difference. Thank you.
