Brunch Like a Drag Queen at SOhO

If a delightful brunch with a generous serving of fabulously singing, self-empowered, and beautiful drag queens are your Sunday wish, then click your heels and snap! — your wish is granted. Now in its ninth month, the Snap! Drag Revue Brunch is back and bigger than ever. Since the revue’s start, SOhO has been the place to be one Sunday a month for a triple heaping of self-expression, song, and sweet and savory scrumptiousness, all in one sitting.

Founder Borgia Bloom said she felt inspired to start the revue brunch after taking a few straight friends out to a drag brunch in New York City. “Halfway through the show, they turned to me and said, ‘You have to make this happen in Santa Barbara!’” Bloom said. “I responded, ‘I’m already working with my graphic designer on a logo.’”

With seven to eight queens singing hits from ranging Broadway to present-day hip-hop, the revue is a visual and aural buffet of beauties of every kind. Expect to sing along and to laugh. “There are many different types of drag queens, and I try and feature them all — comedy, camp, glamour, beauty, impersonation,” Bloom said. “The great thing about a drag show is that it has the ability to make you forget your problems and shelve any worries you may have. That’s why I went to drag shows for so many years,” Bloom said. “I knew that for one hour, I didn’t have to think about what bills I had to pay, personal relationships that were challenging, people who were unhappy around me, work. There wasn’t a consistent sassy show in Santa Barbara that did that — until we came along!”
