Not many minutes after the Goleta City Council praised Jean Blois for attaining 90 years of life and her continuing activities for the young city of Goleta — including as a past city councilmember and current member of city committees — Mayor Paula Perotte was rendered verklempt by a nomination to continue in her post. Goleta routinely passes the mayor’s seat to another councilmember in December, but this year, Mayor Pro Tem Stuart Kasdin noted that in the 2016 election, voters had favored a two-year mayor’s position. He also observed the city had been well managed under Mayor Perotte, saying she listened well, cared for others, and was driven in the best interests of the city. His peers agreed, with the exception of Councilmember Roger Aceves, who abstained. Kasdin was then voted in as Mayor Pro Tem for another year, with Aceves again abstaining.
