The Santa Barbara City Council approved spending $218,000 to relocate a crosswalk near La Cumbre Junior High School — at the intersection of Modoc Road and Portesuello Avenue — as part of the Safe Routes to School program to increase pedestrian safety. By re-striping Modoc Road just to the west of Portesuello — it’s currently just to the east — the distance a pedestrian has to traverse to walk across the street will be reduced from 105 feet to 44.
