History

Singer/Songwriter Rey Villalobos launched The Coral Sea in 2004. The Coral Sea recorded their album Volcano and Heart locally at Orange Whip Studios and self-released it in the summer of 2005. It was subsequently picked up by Parasol's Hidden Agenda Records and released nationally in 2006. In addition, Exercise 1 Records in the UK released "Look at Her Face" CD single.

The band toured throughout the UK and USA promoting the CD and single releases. They've shared bills with Silversun Pickups and The 88, to name a few. While in London, The Coral Sea played live on the BBC, and won a BBC Radio 1 show contest. The band has been on rotation at KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic, INDIE 103, and charting in the top 10 at many other College Radio Stations across the US. Tracks from the album were licensed by ABC TV and featured in two episodes of Grey's Anatomy. Tracks were also used on FOX's Standoff and Showtime's Sleeper Cell.

In 2007, the band has focused on writing a plethora of new songs, which they have been performing live. This summer, the band generated interest in L.A., making Band of the Week at Radio Free Silverlake by playing a packed show schedule at many Los Angeles area clubs including Spaceland, Tangier, The Bordello, and more. They played SOhO in September with Sea Wolf, and will be playing Spaceland and the Detroit Bar in LA soon.

Look for "The Coral Sea's Covers," a compilation of cover songs that they've recorded over the past year. "Heartbeats" by The Knife and the B-side "Where is my Mind" by the Pixies will be released as a single in late September.

The Coral Sea are currently recoding new material for their up coming album with producer Thom Flowers at Orange Whip Studios.
