History

Jason and Colleen met on her front porch years ago while smoking cigarettes and fell in love. He didn’t sing or play guitar, she didn’t play drums, and so naturally they decided the only thing to do was start a band in their living room. Although they had no real intention of recording, The Spires have since released three EPs under their own label, Beehouse Records, which now boasts half a dozen other Ventura County artists. Their stellar combo of socially conscious lyrics and jangly Brit pop guitar melodies will teach you “global warming is real, don’t eat animals, leather shoes are okay if you’re a hypocrite like me, be nice, and we have CDs for sale.” The duo released their debut record, Sky Sky in Decmber 2006. —Independent Staff
