I'm curious as to why the word demanded was capitalized in the headline. Also, the word vagrants was in quotes.
Was this a subtle dig at the merchants for being greedy and mean to want a nice atmosphere for their customers?
How many of the Independent's readers work in State St. businesses?
I realize that the homeless are the unofficial mascots of Santa Barbara's gov't, but that doesn't mean the merchants don't have a point.
Just wondering.

Anyone know if they're going to redeem their store credits?

You're too late. They already got rid of the rooster because the new neighbors didn't like the noise. I hate to state the obvious, but more housing=more people. If you don't build it they can't come.

Why do radio stations feel the need for morning talk shows? How about music and traffic updates? I haven't listened to KTYD in the morning for years. The show wasn't funny and it was painful listening to Julie read the news and stumble over words and have no sense of delivery. More music, less talk. Good luck in Phoenix.

Am I the only one that thought it was a bit ironic to open an article about education with a vignette about a child that can't spell? It seems like this could be used to support the argument that testing doesn't guarantee results. On the other hand, the child can't spell, and how else besides tests would he ever know he's spelling incorrectly? Or is misspelling OK, because we wouldn't want to hurt his self esteem by correcting his error?

"S.B.'s once revered daily"? Are you kidding? I've lived here since 1975 and the NP has always been a joke of a paper. When the Times owned it I cringed every time I walked past the building and saw their name. Wendy has merely hastened the demise of the NP. If this town wants a real paper the NP will never be in the running.

"Allen asked the judge to consider mild retribution payments "
I hate to be pedantic but isn't the term restitution?

A major lawsuit? Bigger than the one about the drowning at the city summer camp? Please.
Never bring a knife to a gunfight or a Taser either. Some dipstick escalates a brawl by pulling a .45 I don't want the PD to 'perhaps' subdue him, I want him down and out.
Also why would the military investigate anything? It didn't happen on base and this guy was discharged.

While I realize FirstDistrictStreetfighter is trying to make a point, what would he say if it was his kid on trial and the photos might show his little 'Angel' wasn't in the vicinity?
With regards to the Chief's interview I doubt he says anything to a reporter that he wouldn't say in public, and as a professional,he'd refrain from talking about pending cases anyway.
I'm not sure what the Daily Sound is getting riled up about. These aren't notes made from sources, they are photos that could show someone else did the crime.
BTW did anybody else notice that the News Suppress wasn't asked for photos of the gang fight? Probably too busy taking pictures of flowers.

Let's build lots of housing so everybody and their brother can live here. Then all will be well and good! SB would be a dump, with great weather.
Get real. These kids don't anticipate the future or prepare for it, no matter what the schools do, they just mope along getting into more and more trouble.
So then what about the parents? As far as it being so sad their parents work 19 hours a day so can't give them the upbringing they need, why don't they move somewhere cheaper instead of beating their heads against the SB housing market? Everybody wants to live here and unless we try using another method, housing will be rationed by price. Can't afford it, leave. I can't afford SB, that's why I'm in Carp.
I've got an idea- don't have kids that you can't raise.
