Nava is right on. Why do detractors automatically assume that the EBID doesn't seek to preserve and highlight the cultural diversity on the Eastside? The small businesses are indeed what makes the area special. As for the parade, yes it's historical, but why did it die out? What will keep it going? Because Spacey ignores the history of the area: the few that kept the parade going for years got tired of doing all the work, and quit. If you want something more sustainable, California law provides for it: business improvement districts. Not rocket science. Not new. Why can't the Eastside have one? Downtown does. Calle Real does. Oxnard does. Stop with the hysteria already.

JohnLocke, YES!

"Nice" people: Salud, Das, Lois, now Cathy.

Lousy in office: same exact set of people.

The most dangerous of them all is Cathy. Now that you've elected her, and told her how wonderful she is for caring about you, she sees that as total approval of her overweening ambitions. She sees herself as the Smiting Hand of Justice against any who dare oppose her worldview. She simply can't contemplate any view that runs contrary to her own.

Try this experiment for yourself: go against any of her opinions. Watch her face screw up like a paper napkin. Then watch her edit your points, and you, out of her image of How Things Are Supposed To Work. You have now become an enemy that threatens Cathy Murillo.

Just because Cathy strokes your hand and pretends to care about you does not make her fit to lead or govern.

If anything, she's proven the total opposite in office. If she doesn't get your adoration, then woe unto you.

Latina leader? That sics PODER onto Latino-owned businesses that don't agree with her?

THAT'S the real Cathy Murillo. Continually assuage my insecurities and reassure me of your loyalty.

Or else I will destroy you.

Thanks, Comrade Murillo. but no thanks.

Roger, you should know better.

The simple truth told over and over is uneasy and awkward to listen to, just like the song; wouldn't you agree John_Adams?

"This EBID has brought out other groups against it in a negative way"; how about the truth be told - The person who STARTED the opposition to the EBID, Jacquline Inda, organized and participated in the protest that "should have never taken place"!!!

The rhetoric is outstanding!

"It is clear that both sides should come together and mend broken relationships". Again, let the truth be told. Each and every request by the MCA to sit down with the leadership of the opposition was emphatically denied. The MCA wanted to sit down and discuss the misinformation and lies that were being spread so as to avoid all the damage and division that has been caused by the opponents and their political operatives.

"Feeling harassed by the MCA"? What about the brash verbal assault made by one of the undersigned of the above letter of the President of the MCA on Christmas Eve? What about the disrespectful showing of the opposition (specifically Jacqui) at the NAC meeting that got her kicked out? What about the direct participation of Cathy Murillo and Jacqui Inda in the awful protest against a family business? These are their solutions for the betterment of the community?! Seriously?

It is clear that the opposition had NO INTENT to "come together" but rather had full intent to damage relationships, cause division and shut down a successful community organization with the intent (but no plan) to "replace" them.

It's high time to expose these people for who they REALLY are.

"Market forces and Capitalism just don’t give us our share of the American pie." No, they don't. They give us our CHANCE to get a share. We have to earn that share. Where did you get the idea you were entitled to it?

I am appalled that the Indy saw fit to publish a PODER column after what they did to El Bajio, and now they're apparently targeting the Chamber. Gaby Hernandez is clearly visible as a leader in the protest at El Bajio in the surveillance footage from that day. Nice props, Indy, for trying to shore up the Titanic of PODER.

"The People's Voice"? PODER????? OMG. More like the "Voice of the People's Republik", comrades. Careful what you do or say, or PODER will demand your emails be made publik. Those facebook posts...scary.

Independent, what are you thinking???

Cathy most certainly does not represent everyone. She was not elected by the majority of voters. She probably got 8000 votes out of 45,000 eligible. She is a lousy city councilwoman that bullies people she doesn't like. She believes government has overweening power, and she craves that power like a drug. She associates openly with pro gang forces. Her desperate need to be liked is pathetic. She posts selfies everywhere - the Council Kardashian indeed. And hey John Adams, like husband like wife on that pesky problem of ethics, eh?
