Do The Right Thing

The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) reversed its decision
to exclude slain Goleta postal worker Maleka Higgins from its
memorial fundraising drive, bowing to an outcry led by Higgins’s
former coworkers. Calling for donations to aid families of the
victims of last month’s mass murder at the Goleta postal facility,
a recent issue of the national APWU newsletter printed photos and
biographies of all victims but Higgins, excluded because she
stopped paying union dues in 2004. Higgins, who worked as a
flex-time post office employee for nearly a decade, is survived by
her husband and nine-month-old daughter.
