Unabashedly conservative state Senator Tom McClintock, whose
district includes Santa Barbara, came to the aid of Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger, who’s been drawing fire of late for so-called
creeping liberalism and big-spending ways, at a mini meet-up of
statewide Republicans last weekend in San Jose. McClintock
downplayed the significance of Schwarzenegger’s plummeting
popularity with Republicans, saying disagreement within a party is
“natural, normal, and healthy.” McClintock, running for Lt.
Governor, stressed that policy differences among California
Republicans paled in comparison to differences between Republicans
and Democrats.
