Police are awaiting the results on an autopsy that may determine what might have killed a 45-year-old woman found early this morning on Milpas Street near a transient encampment. Santa Barbara Police Department spokesperson Lt. Paul McCaffrey said the woman has been “in an out of the Santa Barbara community” for at least eleven years, and was known to officers as homeless. McCaffrey also said that the woman’s friends reported her as not being in any apparent ill health on Tuesday night. Her body showed no signs of foul play, and police are not currently treating the case as a criminal investigation.

The woman’s name is being withheld until her next of kin can be notified of her death. The autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
