Leopard tortoises

Animals-both domestic and wild-add much to the charm of our seaside hamlet. Whether it be dogs playing on the beach; dolphins jumping through the waves just offshore; cows and horses grazing along the highway; cats in store windows; or mountain lions in the backcountry, Santa Barbarans are never far from their next animal encounter.

As such, we at The Independent like to devote a section of the paper to our furry, feathered, and scaly friends in our annual Animal Issue. The following pages include a story about Turtle Dreams, a reptile rescue and rehabilitation center; the benefits of holistic medicine for your pets; and a commentary about the perks of adopting an older dog or cat. So, read on : and be kind to animals!
