UC President Announces Resignation

On Sunday, University of California President Robert C. Dynes announced that he will resign next year. Dynes, who began his presidency in October 2003, cited a longing to focus on his personal life and his continuing superconductivity research as reasons for stepping down as the head of the UC system. His leadership was at times lauded and at times tumultuous, including last year, when it was determined that UC administrators were ignoring employee compensation regulations. Many called for his deposition because of this, and also because of increased undergraduate fees and expanded enrollment without more funding.
