For the second time since its creation last year, the annual Jim Ryerson Award was presented to the Environmental Defense Center by Ryerson’s widow, Christine. The late director of the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, who died in 2005, spearheaded the drive for the federal legislation that now enables Santa Barbara to control pollution from offshore oil drilling. The prize will provide stipends for interns who donate their services to the nonprofit lawyers’ group.
