Cansei de Ser Sexy

The highly anticipated follow-up to 2006’s self-titled debut, Cansei de ser Sexy’s Donkey is an impressive and fun-loving glimpse into the music world according to Brazil. But don’t expect a rehashing of its predecessor here. Where Cansei de Ser Sexy jumped between punk-tinged chaos, dancefloor ready beats, and incomprehensibly energetic lyrics, Donkey takes things down a notch. The first single, “Rat is Dead (Rage)” is all New Wave guitar rock, while “Left Behind” sounds more like the Raveonettes or Ting Tings than anything else. If you’re in search of CSS’s signature synth-heavy stuff, check out “Move” and “How I Became Paranoid.” But you’re best bet, here, is just to sit back and enjoy Donkey for what it is-a solid sophomore effort that piles on the grooves and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
