In one of the most strategically pivotal races statewide, Republican candidate Tony Strickland has raised $1.1 million in his race against Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson for the 19th Senate District, a narrow coastal ribbon that runs from Lompoc to Santa Clarita. Jackson has raised $350,000. Strickland and Jackson were both term-limited out of their respective assembly seats in 2004, and both are vying for the seat long occupied by the arch conservative Tom McClintock. The Republican Party has declared the retention of the 19th district seat the utmost priority and has poured $665,000 into Strickland’s campaign war chest. The Democratic machine has been less urgently forthcoming on behalf of Jackson, who has picked up donations from actors Ted Danson, Malcolm McDowell, and TV producer Steve Bocho and his wife.
