City 11-20
The Santa Barbara City Council committed itself to spend $100,000 studying how to convert Tajiguas landfill trash into energy. While no vendor has been selected to provide these “conversion technology” services, at least eight companies have made the short list. While the new technology will raise trash bills, it will also extend the lifespan of the landfill, which would otherwise hit capacity in 2022. (/trash1120)

Mediation will take place later this week between tenants of the Hillside apartment complex on Modoc Road near La Cumbre Junior High School and the owners, who mailed out eviction notices to the 60 families now living there. Also involved will be organizers from PUEBLO, who have been advocating on behalf of the tenants. The mediation will occur under the auspices of City Hall’s Rental Housing Mediation Task Force.
