Weekend Fire in Isla Vista
Family of Six Escapes With No Injuries.
I.V. Firefighters responded at 11:58 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, to a 911 call regarding a structure fire in a two-story single-family residence in Isla Vista. An engine arrived at 779 Camino Pescadero four minutes after receiving the emergency call to find the family of six safely outside the burning building.
Firefighters were able to able to fully control the fire within 21 minutes, according to a February 8 Santa Barbara County Fire Department news release, keeping the fire contained largely within two bedrooms and one outdoor deck. The family’s mother made the call to emergency services after smelling smoke as smoke alarms were activated in the more than 5,000-square foot residence.
Minor steam burns sustained to the left hand of one firefighter were the only injuries sustained in the effort. The estimate of property damage is $100,000.
While the original call to 911 made mention of a candle having a possible involvement in the outbreak of fire, no cause has yet been determined by investigators.
