Environment 3-19
A California Energy Commission-sponsored study concluded that the sea level would increase by 6-10 feet by the year 2100 if greenhouse gas emissions continue. In Santa Barbara, such a sea change would raise the ocean to the other side of the railroad tracks, making much of the coast a vast lagoon. These estimates fall short of what was projected last year by proponents of the controversial “Light Blue Line,” an art installation that would have visually demonstrated that the water level would creep up Milpas Street all the way to La Super Rica Taqueria.
