The source of a fireworks show in Montecito Saturday is still under investigation by the Montecito Fire Protection District, despite early erroneous reports out of the department that the pyrotechnics were associated with a movie being filmed in the area.

According to Fire Marshal Jim Langhorne, a permit was granted by the state for a fireworks show, but conditions of the permit – one of which is getting permission from local fire officials – were not followed. The district has had a 10-year standing policy not to allow any fireworks displays. While he is still determining who was behind the fireworks, Langhorne did indicate that the fireworks did not come from the Biltmore and were not sanctioned by local business tycoon Ty Warner.
