For those who prefer actual celestial bodies to the Hollywood variety of stars, the Biltmore (1260 Channel Dr., Montecito) is running a special summer feature, Starry Nights, copresented with astronomers from the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. “We’re always trying to find unique, new and entertaining experiences to engage our guests and enhance their experience,” claims Alice Bouman, the Four Seasons resort’s director of rooms. “We were thinking of new programs we could offer this summer, and had heard of [the museum’s] astronomy programs and parties. We approached them with the idea of bringing it here and they were very excited about the collaboration. Ultimately, we decided it was such a great event that we would open it up to local guests as well.” For $25, one can enjoy unlimited appetizers, beer, and wine while observing the moon, constellations, and planets through telescopes, all while hearing from learned astronomers. Children are free with a paying adult. The event happens July 8, August 12, and August 27, 8 to 10 p.m. Reservations are required as they call you if a marine layer makes heaven-gazing impossible.
