Wahoo's Fish Tacos

Although the Santa Barbara Wahoo’s Fish Taco (511 State St., 966-1586, wahoos.com) location has been open only since February 2008, the chain of more than 50 restaurants-or “worldwide pop culture phenomenon,” as it likes to bill itself-is celebrating its 21st anniversary. That’s good news for us, as Wahoo’s is throwing a party, and we’re the gifted guests of honor. On Saturday, November 21, each customer gets a gift, ranging from free meals to gift cards. But the lucky first 21 (the number is a theme, yes) guests, starting when the doors open at 11 a.m., will receive a goodie bag featuring items from companies in the action sports industry such as Famous Stars and Straps, Tony Hawk Inc., 900 Films, Liquid Force, and Tilly’s. If you’ve never been, it may be time to surf on in (it really takes the surf design to the max), if for nothing else than the eponymous treat, a taco made with grilled, tasty ono, a demi-slab of it on each tortilla, redolent of the sea. It doesn’t hurt that sides-like ahi rice (named after a pepper, not the tuna) and seemingly from scratch beans-also please. Throw in some balloons and streamers, and you’re sure to have a good time.
