According to a spokesperson from the California Highway Patrol, Highway 101 is currently closed southbound at the Reynolds Avenue exit in Carpinteria. Additionally, traffic headed north is stopped at Highway 150. The traffic nightmare is the result of a large gas truck currently on fire. There is no estimate as to when the roads will re-open.

[UPDATE]: As of 4 p.m., California Highway Patrol is happy to report that all southbound lanes of Highway 101 are now open and all but one of the northbound lanes are also open in the vicinity of the fuel tanker crash on Highway 101 near Carpinteria.
