Measures Q and R on the November ballot deserve your attention and yes vote. You already know about the state budget mess, and how the money we send via our sales taxes and property taxes end up going who knows where once Sacramento gets them. However the students in our public classrooms understand one thing, that the necessary investment in our public school facilities is not being made. They have to deal with it every day. This is where Measures Q and R come in. Measures Q and R generate $110,000,000 for necessary improvements, repairs, new or modernized class rooms, libraries and energy efficient projects that our school system currently does not get any funding for.

Measures Q and R keep our local tax dollars local – no money goes to the state – it all goes to the Santa Barbara Elementary and Secondary Districts to use specifically and only for those unfunded needs. No money goes to pay for School Administrative uses. No money can get diverted to other programs. Measures Q and R further require the School Districts to have annual audits and to work with an independent citizen’s oversight committee to make sure the funds are spent as proposed. You don’t have to think too hard on this one, it’s a win win.

Rob Ramirez is the treasurer for the Yes on Measures Q and R Committee
