Ethan Turpin Presents Artists’ Talk in Berkeley
Kala Art Institute Hosts 2010 Visions of the New California Fellow in Residency and Talks
Kala Art Institute in Berkeley is proud to welcome Ethan Turpin to our studio as a recipient of the 2010 Visions from the New California Award. Each year six California artists are awarded residencies funded by The James Irvine Foundation.
Kala presents artists’ talks by Ethan Turpin, recipient of the 2010 Visions from the New California Award and Noah Wilson, 2010 Kala Fellowship, Honorable Mention Awardee, Thursday, October 21, 7:00 pm.
Ethan’s work celebrates the phenomena of perception with an urge to intervene in mass mediums. A tendency toward experimentation and an attention to systems leads him to work across new and old media using the sensibilities of observation and remix.
In the on-going series Stereocollision, he digitally collages images and texts from antique stereoviews, giving viewers an immersive 3D experience within scenes reflecting hyper-globalization and humanity’s relationship with nature.
Ethan received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1997 and has shown in numerous galleries since, including Edward Cella Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, Robert Tat Photography in San Francisco, and The Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum.
