However, the Tea Party’s anti-government rhetoric and support from powerful elites sometimes seems strangely familiar.

Rick Perlstein is the author of the New York Times bestseller Nixonland: The Rise of a President and the Fracturing of America, and Before The Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus. A frequent commentator on national politics, Perlstein has written extensively for the New Republic, Huffington Post, The New Yorker, the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Nation, The Village Voice, and Slate.
