City of Santa Barbara Forestry Program Releases Community Guide to Tree Planting

The City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department announces the release of a new free community resource, Santa Barbara’s Community Guide to Tree Planting. Funded by an Urban Forestry Grant from the California Department of Fire and Forestry, the guide provides Santa Barbara residents with step-by-step information on planning, planting and caring for trees. It discusses the role trees play in conserving resources, beautifying the community, and providing wildlife habitat. Moreover, trees that comprise the urban forest contribute to the region’s quality of life, economy and cultural history. The guide includes information about trees that grow well in Santa Barbara, the City’s Forestry program and the Tree Preservation policies, and tree maintenance requirements in high fire hazard areas.
