Assemblymember Das Williams helped secure a two-month reprieve for McGrath State Beach, located along the coast in Ventura County, to raise the $150,000 in additional funds needed to keep the park open. Absent this intervention, the park was slated to close 9/6 in response to the state’s increasingly drastic budget shortfalls. Williams said he’s secured a $250,000 grant, but to collect the money, park supporters need to raise matching funds. Of that, $100,00 has already been earmarked, leaving a $150,000 gap. To that end, Williams is urging park supporters to “vote as often as they can” for their favorite park in a social-media contest orchestrated by Coca-Cola at its LivingPositively.com Web site. The soft drink maker has pledged cash rewards for the winner of that contest.
