I am as concerned about recycling as anybody; I carefully sort through everything that I dispose of. However, I have a problem with outlawing every single plastic bag.

This might be fine for people who own a garbage disposal, but what about those of us who need to dispose of garbage in trash containers? We can’t wrap our garbage in newspapers either because many of us do not subscribe to newspapers. So how are we to dispose of food scraps?

I always take a reusable bag into the market, and only use one plastic bag a week – sometimes it lasts 10 days, depending on what I’ve been cooking. I’ve read that they are going to start charging for plastic bags. Is that fair, to punish folks who live in older homes or apartments without garbage disposals? Until trash companies put out cans into which we can dump our unwrapped wet food scraps, I think we should continue to issue plastic trash bags and trust people use good sense in their use.
