One day I was at the computer, clicked on the wrong icon in my bookmarks, and wound up on the Democratic Central Service Club website. I cruised through it anyway, and came across the announcement encouraging folks to run for the Democratic Central Committee. “Self,” I said, “why not?”

I received 1,609 votes, and placed sixth out of five places to be filled. Besides being flabbergasted that people would even vote for me (What? ME? Wow!), I am humbled and honored that people would sincerely consider me for a position of trust. This is about serious stuff that makes a profound difference in all our lives. This has been a sobering, grow-me-up-a-bit-more, I-am-part-of-a-larger-community experience. I am grateful. You have changed my life in a way that no marriage, new job, winning lotto ticket, or sudden fame could. There is a subtle yet profound change in my perspective towards my relationship with people and my community. I thank you all.
